Renewable Energy IoT Data SIM Cards
Multi-network data SIMs for inverters, SCADA gateways and met masts — on sites chosen for sun and wind rather than for signal.
Sited for sun and wind, not for signal
A renewable site goes where the irradiance, the wind and the grid connection are. Coverage is whatever happens to be there — and it is usually the one thing nobody surveyed before the inverters arrived.
Up to four networks, one SIM
In the UK, France and Spain a Wave SIM reaches four operators. In Germany, Italy and Ireland, three. The modem uses whichever is strongest where the device actually sits.
Profile changes without a site visit
On hardware that supports remote provisioning we load or switch the network profile for you from our side — no technician, no ladder, no drive out to a substation. It depends on the device, so ask us whether yours qualifies.
Buy the data, not a contract
30-day and 12-month plans are bought outright, with no monthly tie and no minimum fleet size. Pooled data shared across sites is priced separately — tell us the estate and we'll quote it.
What a single network costs you
Not an outage you get told about. Three failures that happen quietly and show up in the reporting.
One operator, one mast
If the only mast in range belongs to a single operator and there is a ridge between you and it, a single-network SIM has nowhere to go. It will not fail over, because there is nothing to fail over to.
Congestion you don't control
Rural cells get busy in bursts — harvest traffic, holiday season, a local event. Your telemetry competes with it and loses. No alarm fires. You just get gaps.
Gaps found out late
A logger that stopped three weeks ago tends to be discovered when the generation report is due, or when somebody checks an availability figure. By then the month cannot be reconstructed.
What you'll be connecting
Low-bandwidth, high-consequence devices, mostly sending the same small payload on a fixed interval for years.
What a site actually uses
Sizing goes wrong in both directions. These are the three profiles worth knowing before you choose a plan.
One inverter logger
Roughly 30–60 MB a month polling every five minutes, once TLS overhead, NTP and firmware checks are counted. Under 1 GB across a year.
One site gateway
Roughly 300–500 MB a month aggregating a whole site at one-minute granularity. Call it 4–6 GB a year.
Perimeter cameras
Heavier, and well catered for. Event-triggered 1080p clips run 2–5 GB a month. Prepaid plans refill up to 100 GB and pooled data across sites has no cap, so a camera estate does not need a second supplier.
Most sites run one gateway SIM rather than a SIM per inverter, which is why a 6 GB / 12 month plan covers the majority of installations with headroom for a noisy commissioning month.
These are indicative figures, not measurements of your equipment. Export a month of traffic from an existing site and we will size it against your real profile before you buy anything.
Plans for a renewable site
Prices shown in your own currency. Physical SIM and eSIM both work here — choose the eSIM if the device supports it, because then the network profile can be changed without opening the enclosure.

Common questions
Will one plan work across sites in different countries?
Within the region you buy, yes — a developer with sites in France, Spain and Germany can run one plan type across all three rather than sourcing locally in each. The exact country list is on each plan's product page, so check it against your portfolio before ordering. UK sites need a UK plan or a Europe plan depending on where the device lives.
What happens when a network goes down mid-month?
The modem reselects to another operator carried on the same SIM. There is nothing to configure per event and no card to swap. What you lose is the few minutes the modem takes to reattach, not the month of data.
Can we add a network without a site visit?
On eSIM, and on hardware that supports remote provisioning, yes — but we do it rather than you. Ask us and we load or switch the profile over the air from our side. A physical SIM already carries several profiles and reselects between them automatically; adding a brand-new operator profile is the job that needs the eSIM version. For remote or climbed assets that is usually the deciding factor.
Does the APN change when the SIM switches network?
No. The APN is set once in the device or the gateway template and stays put through reselection, so one commissioning checklist works across the whole fleet regardless of which operator a given site ends up attached to.
What if a site uses more than its plan?
Nothing auto-bills at a surprise rate. Refills on a prepaid plan go up to 100 GB, so outgrowing the shelf size is a top-up rather than a migration, and the portal can notify you before a plan runs out rather than after. Past a handful of sites, pooled data shared across the estate has no cap and is quoted — usually simpler to manage than per-SIM plans.
Tell us about your sites
How many, what's on them, and where they are. We'll size the plans against that and send a quote, usually the same day.
