Construction & Plant Hire Data SIM Cards

Multi-network data SIMs for plant telematics, site cameras and temporary connectivity — on sites that have no fixed line for the first six months, and no fixed line ever if they are small.

Why multi-network here

A new site is an unknown coverage survey

You find out what the signal is like on the day the cabin lands, which is also the day you need it. And the machines do not stay put — a digger that works three counties this year may well cross a border next year on the back of a low-loader.

Up to four networks, one SIM

In the UK, France and Spain a Wave SIM reaches four operators. In Germany, Italy and Ireland, three. On a site nobody has surveyed, reaching several networks is the difference between working on day one and waiting for a survey.

Profile changes without chasing the machine

On hardware that supports remote provisioning we load or switch the network profile for you from our side — useful when the asset is on hire two hundred miles away. It depends on the device, so ask us whether yours qualifies.

Buy the data, not a contract

30-day and 12-month plans are bought outright, with no monthly tie and no minimum fleet size — which matters when a site has a nine-month life and a plant item goes back on the yard between hires.

What goes wrong on site

Three failures that cost either a day of work or a machine.

Day one, no infrastructure

A fixed line takes weeks to install and is often not worth it for the duration. Until it arrives, everything — drawings, RAMS, timesheets, inductions — runs over whatever cellular the cabin can find.

Assets that move and cross borders

Plant telematics sourced per country becomes an administrative problem the first time a machine is hired out across a border. One SIM that works across the region removes the question entirely.

Theft happens at the weekend

Plant theft is a Friday-night-to-Monday-morning business, and a tracker or camera that quietly lost signal on Thursday is worth nothing on Monday. Multi-network is how you reduce the chance of the one operator on site being the one that drops.

What you'll be connecting

Small telemetry on machines, and a handful of things on site that use real bandwidth.

What a site actually uses

Telemetry is trivial. Two things on a site are not, and the site office is the one people under-budget.

A telematics unit

Roughly 20–80 MB a month per machine for hours, location, fault codes and the occasional firmware update.

A site camera

Roughly 2–5 GB a month on event-triggered clips. Refills reach 100 GB, so a camera-heavy compound is a top-up question rather than a different supplier.

A site cabin office

A different animal: 10–50 GB a month with drawings, video calls and a dozen phones on the WiFi. This is a pooled-data conversation, not a shelf plan.

Plant and sensors sit comfortably on 6 GB / 12 month plans bought per machine. Cameras want 25 GB or a refill. A site office genuinely needs pooled data — we would rather tell you that now than sell you a plan that runs out in week three.

These are indicative figures, not measurements of your sites. Tell us the fleet and what is on the compound and we will size it properly before you buy anything.

Plans for plant and sites

Prices shown in your own currency. Most telematics units and site routers take a standard SIM, so check the slot before choosing the eSIM — though the eSIM is the better answer on a sealed unit buried in a machine.

Common questions

Will one SIM work when plant crosses a border?

Within the region you buy, yes — which is the main reason hire companies move to a single plan type rather than sourcing per country. The exact country list is on each plan's product page, so check it against where your machines actually travel before committing a fleet.

Can we connect the site office with this?

Yes, but size it honestly. A cabin with drawings, video calls and a dozen phones on the WiFi can run 10–50 GB a month, which is beyond what a shelf plan is designed for. That is a pooled-data arrangement — tell us the headcount and we will quote it rather than selling you something that expires mid-month.

Will a tracker still report if the machine's battery is disconnected?

Only if the tracker has its own backup power — and that is a hardware choice, not a SIM one. Thieves isolate the battery first, so if theft recovery is the point, specify a unit with an internal cell and a tamper alert. The data plan is the cheap part of that decision.

Does the APN change when the SIM switches network?

No. The APN is set once in the unit and stays put through reselection, so one configuration works across the whole fleet regardless of which site a machine is on or which operator it attaches to.

What if a site uses more than its plan?

Nothing auto-bills at a surprise rate. Refills on a prepaid plan go up to 100 GB, so a busy compound is a top-up rather than a migration, and the portal can notify you before a plan runs out rather than after. Across a fleet, pooled data has no cap and is quoted — usually simpler than a plan per machine.
